I managed to get my hands on an electron microscope for a couple of hours to have a closer look at an interesting "obovoid" Lamproderma (0976) found by Sarah Lloyd.
The coloured image of spores below are taken with a good quality light microscope at 1000 x. Black and white images shown below ar taken with a scanning electron microscope (magnification is shown under the E.M. images). The increase in resolution over a light microscope can be clearly seen - with spore ornamentation clearly visible at an E.M. magnfication of 14,700 x.
